Adams Neurosciences Center Building Fund supports construction of the center at the Saint Raphael Campus. The center will feature two towers containing operating rooms, radiology services, neuroscience intensive care units, and a total of 201 inpatient beds serving both neuroscience and general medical patients.

The Marna P. Borgstrom and Peter N. Herbert, MD Advanced Nursing Education Scholarships were established by the grateful family of a patient who received exceptional care at Yale New Haven Hospital and were particularly appreciative for the talented and compassionate nursing staff.

The scholarships provide financial assistance to qualified YNHH nurses who wish to raise their level of expertise and knowledge by obtaining a certification of Nurse Practitioner, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Doctor of Clinical Practice or similar advanced certification.

Scholarships of up to $10,000 are awarded annually to qualified applicants who have been accepted by or are currently enrolled in a Connecticut APRN licensure program. YNHH full-time and part-time employees working at least 24 hours per week (coded position) for at least two consecutive years prior to their date of application are eligible.

The Brain Tumor Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital offers advanced treatment for patients with primary brain tumors, brain metastases and neurological complications of cancer. Our top priority is pioneering the latest surgical and non-surgical techniques to improve survival and preserve neurological function for people with cancers of the brain, spinal cord and nerves.

Provides support for cardiac patients and staff for the purposes of enhanced treatment and education. Support includes holistic therapies for long term cardiac patients awaiting a heart transplant and enduring prolonged interventional procedures. Education for staff helps advance their holistic and technical skills for interventional procedures requiring sophisticated educational training.

Integrative medicine at Smilow Cancer Hospital helps patients navigate the physical, mental and spiritual challenges that may arise during and after cancer therapy. Existing treatment plans are complemented with interventions such as mind-body work, creative expression and nutritional interventions, including special diets, herbal medicines, acupuncture, meditation, massage, art therapy and yoga. The Interventional Psychiatric Services (IPS) Support Fund provides financial relief to patients suffering from mental illnesses and mood disorders. Often times, insurance does not cover specific treatments and the IPS Fund provides greatly needed financial support to patients who are at high risk.

Provides complementary and alternative therapies that help patients undergoing surgery, such as spine and total joint replacement, with post-operative pain management. Therapies will provide patients with a variety of techniques such as relaxation techniques, Reiki, mindfulness meditation, music therapy and visualization.

The Palliative Care Services Program at YNHH is dedicated to the care and comfort of seriously ill patients and their families. Palliative Care focuses on symptom and pain management and quality of life issues for patients with complex, chronic or terminal illnesses at any stage of the illness.

Palliative Care Services team works together with the primary medical teams who are actively treating the underlying illness by providing and coordinating specialized physician, nursing, social work, and pastoral services. To improve patient care, Palliative Care Services is committed to the ongoing education and training of clinical care-givers.

The Palliative Care Fund supports patient services and education, staff education and other needs and expenses directly related to Palliative Care Services.

Support for our sickle cell disease patients can make a measurable impact to those dealing with the condition. This specific patient population has a unique set of challenges that require unique attention and strategies. Support of this fund will be used toward grocery cards, parking support for multiple hospital visits, and transportation support (taxis, driver services) in emergencies. In addition, the painful effects of the disease can be mitigated through patient and family support groups, plus music therapy, meditation and, for inpatients, access to laptops for movies and other distractions.

The Thoracic Oncology Program (TOP) team is committed to advancing the use of immunotherapy to treat thoracic malignancies. This Fund supports the team in their clinical research and treatment efforts, bringing them closer to understanding the mechanisms, including acquired resistances and successes, of molecularly targeted therapies and immunotherapies.

Provides financial assistance and education to patients and their families in need of a solid organ transplant (liver, kidney or heart). Assistance may include the payment of insurance premiums, mortgage and utility payments and needed prescriptions. Financial assistance is also granted to the organ donor patient.

The Urology Program Fund supports our multi-disciplinary team of experts who evaluate, diagnose and treat urologic diseases and conditions. The fund helps to improve clinical research, provide an additional resource for staff and patient education material and programs, and provide support for equipment and facility upgrades to improve patient experience and quality of care. This Fund is utilized by the leaders of the Urology care team to maintain and improve the state-of-the-art treatment, research and service to patients seeking medical assistance.

The Family Resource Center provides access to computers, the Internet, a universal cell phone charger, a parent library of books, resources and information related to children’s health care, financing and advocacy. A schedule for coffee hours and educational events is posted outside the center. Caring, professional staff is also available to bring information to patient rooms if necessary.

The philosophy of the Yale New Haven Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia is to provide society with highly competent nurse anesthesia practitioners. Our faculty shows a deep commitment to the education of nurse anesthesia practitioners, openly sharing their expertise with our students. The faculty consists of certified registered nurse anesthetists, physician anesthesiologists, surgeons, allied health practitioners and professors. Our objective is to provide an educational and clinical experience that will enable the student, after completion of the program, to provide safe, comprehensive and compassionate anesthetic care to the wide variety of clinical situations that arise in the current practice of anesthesia. Yale New Haven Health’s Irving and Alice Brown Teaching Kitchen provides participants the unique opportunity to work side-by-side with a chef and registered dietitian, learning to create foods which are both tasty and promote wellness. Classes focus on how nutrition can help many digestive conditions such as reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and more. The YNHH Teaching Kitchen Fund supports all operating expenses of the kitchen and includes videography/IT support, food products, learning tools, and education programs.
